Project Principles and Objectives

Works to remodel the existing car park as part of the refurbishment of existing residential blocks works had been put on hold when the extent of the necessary drainage works were identified during the planning process. The Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) required the installation of a new surface water drainage system to the site. Subsequent site investigations determined that the only viable option for the disposal of the surface water was by discharging to the local surface water network in the highway.

Project Works

The works comprised of:

• Laying of new underground rain water pipework and associated manholes;

• Installation of an attenuation tank;

• Installation and commissioning of a pump chamber;

• Works to connect to Thames Water surface water network drain in the highway (and associated traffic management);

• All works with laying new pipework on the highway;

• Constructing new car parking to include:

o All groundworks associated with the new car park, including all subbase build up, kerbing;

o Planing off the existing Tarmac in preparation for replacement;

o Installation of finished surfaces that include a mix of Tarmac and permeable block paving;

o New and existing drainage gullies to be connected to the new drainage system;

o Installation testing and commissioning of new car park lighting (lamp columns and heads provided).

Best Practice

The team from Ryebridge Construction completed work on this major drainage project five days earlier than expected - ensuring minimum disruption for residents, businesses and other road users.

Highway construction works are always challenging and timeframes can be difficult to achieve. Ryebridge is proud to ensure accurate programming and delivery.

Safety is always of paramount importance - with no exceptions - however we are aware of the impact of works on surrounding areas and take every measure to complete on time.

On this particular project we had engaged with local businesses and residents and understood their a huge sense of frustration about these essential works and the closure so to finish early was a huge positive.
